Responsible for two major thrift stores that support charitable activities, Mike Higgins also provides executive leadership to Hope Children’s Homes in New Mexico and Honduras.
Children served by Hope often face serious life challenges, such as poverty, lack of education, family alcoholism, and addiction. Dr. Higgins’ organization provides safe, supportive residential services designed to help children grow and thrive. 95 percent of the graduates from the program go on to continue studies in college.
A groundbreaking accomplishment of Dr. Higgins, centered on the creation of the first children’s home nationwide to attain US Green Building Council “LEED” certification. He also guided the creation of the Cottages of Hope project that provides infants and sibling groups with family-style home living.
After working as a renal therapy specialist at Baxter Healthcare Corp in Indianapolis, Mike Higgins became ordained as a Baptist minister in 1992. He served as associate pastor at Liberty Baptist Church for several years, where he oversaw community outreach activities and provided individual and family counseling.
